About the publication:

The last three years saw the emergence of many new and interesting positions in digital art, constituting enough material to justify a retrospective book gathering a selection of the most important protagonists and art movements and bringing this exciting theme to the readers.

'Digital art' by Wolf Lieser draws a line from the beginning of computer art until today, presenting the most important positions in digital art: SoftwareArt, an artwork based on a software written by the artist, NetArt, art on the internet, 3d-animation,interactive media facades and early graphics. Besides texts by the author, known pioneers were invited to describe their first exhibitions, to write about the public reactions to this 'machine art' and to introduce the processes of their art to the reader.

For instance, Prof.Wulf Herzogenrath from the Kunsthalle Bremen argues in his essay for the entry of digital art in museums, while other known curators entice the reader to look at exceptional positions such as Second Life, the future of Internet art and locative media. Many visuals illustrate the broad spectrum of this art scene.
