about the festival
Willing to investigate sound art in its diversity, Transcultures organises every summer since 2003, with the support of the city of Mons, City Sonics Festival, dedicated to sound art in the city. Started in 2003 by Transcultures and the city of Mons, City Sonics is a festival dedicated to all contemporary aspects of sound. Every summer for a whole month, City Sonics proposes a unique path within the urban area. Installations, environments, listening salons, performances and concerts offer settings to sound, words and musics echoing with images. City Sonics invites a large audience to a playful and poetic deambulation in the very heart of today's sound universes. This international festival of creation brings together reknown and emergent artists, from various backgrounds and disciplines (music, visual arts, literature, digital art, radiophonic creation, design...), in unusual or heritage places of the city, all connected by sound. City Sonics also supports young creation through its « Sound Emergences » program, presenting a selection of students' projects from Belgian and European art schools. Transcultures / City Sonics productions or co-productions are touring and presented to diverse associated events.
City Sonics is supported by the Communauté Wallonie-Bruxelles and is a production Transcultures,
city of Mons, in co-production with Musiques Nouvelles/le manège.mons CECN/le manège.mons et Technocité.
