Over a period of fourteen years Happy New Ears evolved from a festival at the former Limelight arts centre to an independent and internationally renowned festival for new music and sound art. In October 2008 The Wire wrote: «Kortrijk's Happy New Ears festival is establishing a reputation for itself as one of Europe's premier sound art festival».
